My Poor Baby

On Friday I had to take my dog to the vet to stay at the kennel while I am off in Florida getting married. My dog, Gaby, has separation anxiety so I knew this was not going to be fun for him. I packed my bags and loaded the car while he was occupied with Sparky elsewhere so he wouldn't know I was leaving. The night before, I washed his blankie and laid it on my bed so it would smell like me in the morning.
Friday morning I took Gaby out then wrapped him in his blankie. He was loving every minute of it. Then I put him in the car, his favorite. He was thoroughly enjoying a morning drive with mommy while swaddled in his blanket.

Then we arrived at the vet.
I picked him up and carried him inside. I did this partially because he was swaddled so nicely and it was cold outside, partially because I wanted a little more snuggle time, and partially because every time he walks inside the vet he poops and pees on the floor and I didn't want to deal with it. I go inside and the man behind the counter asks if the dog knows how to walk... nice. I was sparing his floor and he mocks me.

Gaby begins shaking from terror. He kept looking at me with his sad, pathetic, blind little eyes begging me not to leave him there. He stuck out his little tongue and gently kissed my cheek as though he was saying goodbye forever.
It was awful. Then the guy from the kennel comes out to collect my dog. He savagely rips off Gaby's nicely swaddled blanket and tells me to keep it. But I called just the day before and the lady I talked to said he could keep a blanket, I whine to the man. He tells me that they usuially lose blankts and stuff left with animals. I told him it would be okay, but Gaby needed the blanket. They looked at me like I was crazy and I left.

When I got to the car you won't believe what happened. Tears slid down my cheeks. I realize how ridiculous it is that I cried over leaving my dog at the kennel. But I did.
**note: these pictures are not from the morning trip to the vet. These are from another day when I was playing with Gaby's hair.
